Questions that we get frequently!

Answer - You have to be at least 15 years of age prior to the start of the class.Students in grade 10 have first opportunity to take driver education.

Answer - There is no cost for the course in high school.

Answer -  The course takes about seven weeks to complete and the in-car will take a bit longer.

Answer -  Simulators are an extra tool in your driver education course that helps you learn about driving in a safe, controlled environment.

Answer -  The most common documents accepted are an original Birth Certificate or a Passport. Other documents that may be accepted are Permanent Resident Card, Certificate of Citizenship, Driver Examination Certificate, Existing Photo Identification or Co-signer document that is approved by the Administrator (SGI).

Answer -  No, only original documents are accepted.

Answer -  You will not be able to complete your driving until you have your  identification. It is important to note that the driving should be completed at the same time as the theory part of the course.

Answer -  Your licence expires at the end of your birth month. The most it will cost is $25.00.

Answer -  Your renewal date is at the end of your birthday month.

Answer -  You are entitled to rewrite one time through the high school course and then after that you will have to go to SGI to rewrite at a cost of $10.00 per time.

Answer -  You may enroll again but will be placed at the end of the list. You will only get in if there is space available.

Answer -  Saskatchewan Government Insurance allows up to three hours for legitimate reasons. A note is required for each absence. If a note is not received, the missed time will be considered skipping and you can be removed immediately.

Answer -  If you are 15 years of age your licence will be suspended. If you are 16 or older the driver education indicator will be removed from your licence and you will not be able to take a road test.

Answer -  You will get a final mark in driver education but it will not affect your average.

Answer -  Under the Graduated Driver’s Licensing (GDL) Program you have to drive a minimum of nine months before taking a road test. You have to be at least 16 years of age to take a road test. The person you are driving with has to be an experienced driver that is not in the GDL Program. They have to be sitting in the front seat beside you to be able to take control. Between the hours of midnight and 5 AM. The passengers are limited to immediate family members only. The number of passengers is limited to the number of seatbelts. You cannot consume any alcohol.

Answer -  As with any collision, SGI will determine who is at fault. Insurance will cover the majority of the cost of repairing the vehicle

Answer -  Under the Traffic Safety Act, it is the law to carry your licence with you. If you do not have it on you, you MAY be given up to 48 hours to produce it.

Answer -  You can drive with anyone that has held a Class 5 or higher licence for at least 365 days in the preceding three years. The person supervising can not be a probationary or graduated licensed driver and they do have to have a current drivers licence.

Answer -  You can go for your road test after holding a Class 7 licence for a minimum of nine months and be at least 16 years of age.

Answer -  Go to any Motor Licence Issuer and purchase a Road Test Receipt for a Class 5 Road Test. To book your appointment call 683-2320 in Saskatoon or toll-free 1-800-667-5111 in southern Saskatchewan or 1-800-667-5105 in northern Saskatchewan. Have your road test receipt and licence with you when you make the call. Also make sure you have your Certificate of Driver Education when you go for the Road Test. This is a small wallet sized card issued by your driver educator upon successful completion of the driver education course. If you have lost it, it can be replaced for a fee of $10.00 by calling the Manager –Driver Education Services at 683-8268.
